Cleveland Fed District Data Brief

COVID-19 Mortality Rate Trends in Countries and US States

Building on our District Data Briefs on the coronavirus epidemic, this update examines the epidemic’s trajectories in several countries and US states.

The charts in the presentations below use the same data sources as the charts in two April 2020 District Data Briefs. Please see these reports for additional details:

The charts in these presentations have been updated with more recent COVID-19 data from the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University (CSSE). The charts have been modified from those in the reports to better convey the current status of the COVID-19 epidemic in the United States.

Since those District Data Briefs were completed, additional evidence shows that COVID-19 deaths have been underreported, both in other countries and in the United States. The charts present the recent CSSE data, with no attempt to further correct for underreporting.

The views expressed in this report are those of the author(s) and are not necessarily those of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland or the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.
