Bubbles, Books, and Gardening: Cleveland Fed Offers Engaging, Free Summer Student Programs

Not another boring summer! Keep your students and children engaged and learning in a fun way. The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland offers a suite of activities that weave personal finance concepts into summer-themed projects such as building a community garden and making bubbles. Programs are free and available for students of all ages from mid-June through August.

Summer Research Coding Camp: July 12-16 – A virtual, hands-on program aimed at rising high school juniors and seniors. Activities expose students to the typical skills that economists use daily in their careers, such as coding statistical software to gather and analyze large data sets. The program concludes with students presenting their findings on such topics as racial inequality, the gender pay gap, and climate change. Register by July 9.

Savvy Spender Scavenger Hunt – A challenge that tests budgeting skills.

Build Your Own Community Garden – A step-by-step guide on how to start a community garden in a local neighborhood.

Logicals – Summer-themed puzzles that require logic-based reasoning and include optional activities such as making bubbles or snacks.

Grow Your Savings – A program centered on how to spend and save money earned. Students set a savings goal, make their own piggy bank, and track their cash throughout the summer.

Also, check out the Summer Reading List chock-full of resources that will help students learn about personal finance and money.

For more details on these programs, check out the Summer Programming page on the Education and Museum Outreach website.
