Paola Boel is a vice president in the Research Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. She leads the banking and finance group which conducts research in various fields of economics and finance, including banking, household finance, macro finance, payments, and networks; and provides advice on financial stability. Her fields of interest include monetary theory, payment systems, and financial intermediation.

Prior to joining the Bank, Dr. Boel was a senior economist in the research division of Sveriges Riksbank, the central bank of Sweden. Previously, she was an assistant professor of economics at Bowdoin College.

Dr. Boel obtained her PhD and MA in economics from Purdue University and her BA in economics from Bocconi University in Milan, Italy.
