International Policy Coordination: Can We Afford It?

The globalization of markets offers enormous potential for international cooperation--a potential both to enhance markets and to supplant markets. We must not accept proposals for international policy coordination without a critical assessment of their potential costs as well as benefits.

The views authors express in Economic Commentary are theirs and not necessarily those of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland or the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. The series editor is Tasia Hane. This paper and its data are subject to revision; please visit clevelandfed.org for updates.
