Cleveland Federal Reserve Bank appoints Mekael Teshome as vice president and senior regional officer of the Bank’s Pittsburgh Branch

Mekael Teshome has been named vice president and senior regional officer of the Pittsburgh Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland effective January 22, 2018.

Teshome will serve as the Cleveland Fed’s senior official in its Pittsburgh region, which includes western Pennsylvania, southeastern Ohio, and the northern panhandle of West Virginia. He will be responsible for managing relationships with regional stakeholders, monitoring the region’s economic environment, and conducting economic research and analysis. He will also manage the Bank’s Business Advisory Councils in Pittsburgh, Erie, and Wheeling.

“Mekael’s work analyzing and monitoring economic conditions across a variety of US states and metro areas makes him well-qualified for the position of senior regional officer. His professional network and connections throughout the Pittsburgh area are also considerable assets,” says Guhan Venkatu, group vice president of the regional outreach and analysis unit in the Bank’s Research Department.

Teshome was most recently an assistant vice president and economist at The PNC Financial Services Group in Pittsburgh. Prior to joining PNC in 2011, he served as an assistant director and economist at Moody’s Analytics.

He graduated magna cum laude with a BA in political science from Taylor University in Upland, Indiana, and holds an MA in economics from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Teshome is a founding board member of the Bethel Environmental and Agricultural University and Training Center, a member of the board of economic advisors of the North Carolina Chamber Foundation, and the vice president for programming of the Economic Club of Pittsburgh. He is also a member of the National Association for Business Economics (NABE) and the Ethiopian Economics Association.

Teshome succeeds Guhan Venkatu, who was promoted in July to group vice president of the Research Department’s regional outreach and analysis unit. Venkatu has served as senior regional officer of the Bank’s Pittsburgh Branch since 2013.
