President Mester: Inflation hasn’t cooled yet, Fed remains committed to bringing it down

Below-trend growth this year is “necessary in order to get price increases, inflation under control,” President Mester said in an August 2 interview with economics reporter David J. Lynch on the Washington Post Live podcast. Inflation remains persistently high and Mester says she wants to see sustained evidence across a broad variety of measures that it’s moving down before easing off of the Fed’s regime of interest rate increases.
