Bank Mergers and Acquisitions
Between 1960 and 1979, US bank mergers and acquisitions totaled 3,404. This consolidation continued in the 1980s and early 1990s, largely due to state regulatory changes that allowed out of state bank holding companies to acquire home-state banks.
