President Mester: Evolution of economy will determine pace of removing accommodation

A series of rate increases will be needed to contain inflation in the coming months, with the timing driven by how the U.S. economy performs, President Mester said in a February 25 Barron's Live podcast.

"If it turns out that inflation isn't moving down the way I expect it to, then we would have to quicken the pace of removing accommodation. And if it turns out that inflation comes down more than I thought, then we might be able to remove accommodation at a slower pace in the second half of the year," Mester told host Lisa Beilfuss.
