The Cleveland Fed’s Intern Program combines academic endeavors with related work experience for undergraduate and graduate students and PhD candidates. We seek collaborative and innovative people who are eager develop professionally.

What you will be doing as an intern

In your paid internship, you will gain valuable, hands-on experience in your chosen field and grow your professional network through program activities, including

  • Mentoring - You will have a mentor who will orient you to the Bank and your business area and help you get the most out of your internship experience.
  • Professional Development - You will participate in seminars and experiential learning activities designed to help you grow professionally.
  • Volunteer Project - You will learn about the community served by the Cleveland Fed through participation in local volunteer activities.
  • Intern Project Expo - You will showcase your internship experience and network with Cleveland Fed employees.
  • Networking Events - You will get to know your fellow interns and other coworkers through informal engagements.

Who should apply for the Intern Program

Full-time students who have completed at least sophomore year at an accredited college or university and who

  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Are able to work 40 hours per week throughout the duration of a 10- to 12-week internship
  • Have at least one semester remaining upon completion of the internship
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication, and computer skills
  • Meet additional qualifications outlined in the specific intern job posting

Note: Relatives of current employees or of Cleveland Fed directors will not be considered for the Intern Program.

  • Use the “Criteria” field to narrow your search to internships
  • Apply for a specific internship to ensure consideration for that opening

What to expect after you apply
  • You will receive an email within 24 hours acknowledging receipt of your online application
  • The recruiting team will review your application relative to the specific intern job opening and possibly for other internships, as applicable
  • You will be contacted by phone if you are selected for consideration
  • You will be notified by email if you are not selected for consideration

What to expect if selected for an interview
  • Interviews may be conducted one on one or panel style
  • During the interview, the interviewer or panel will review your education and qualifications and will ask behavioral-based questions
  • It may be necessary to conduct a second interview
  • Some positions may include additional assessments

What to expect after your interview
  • You may receive an employment offer
  • If you are not selected for the position, you will be notified by email or phone once the opening has been filled
  • You may also check your application status on our website

What to expect if you accept an employment offer
  • You will provide documentation of your identity and eligibility to work in the United States
  • You will undergo a rigorous background check
  • Additional requirements are reviewed on a per-position basis

When internships start, end, and how many hours you should expect

Internships vary at the Cleveland Fed; however, typical internships have

  • A duration of 10 to 12 weeks
  • A work schedule of 40 hours per week
  • A start date as early as May and a conclusion date as late as September, depending on individual student and business area needs
