Submission requirements
- An essay is a short literary composition. No other forms of writing (plays, poetry, rap, etc.) will be accepted.
- Each student may submit only one essay. That essay must represent his or her original work.
- Subject matter cannot contain profanity, belittling, or violent language, ideas, or themes. Essays with any such references will be disqualified.
- Each student must complete a Student Entry Form — signed by the student, parent or guardian, and teacher — and submit it with two copies of his or her essay.
- Essays and score sheets will not be returned to the author or teacher.
- Essays may be no longer than three typed pages, double-spaced, single-sided, 12-point type with 1-inch margins. (Page limit does not include title page and bibliography.)
- Essays must include a title page containing the following information:
- Essay title Author ’s name (on title page only)
- School name, address, and telephone number
- Teacher ’s name and e-mail address
- References to primary and secondary sources must be clearly identified.
