2010 Internship Program

The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland is part of the nation’s central bank.

We provide professional growth opportunities through our Internship Program.  We are seeking innovative thinkers with vision to build the framework that will carry the Bank into the future.

Recruitment for intern positions occurs between October and April for the upcoming summer program.  Please check our website periodically to see what positions are in active recruitment status, as it will change based on departmental needs.

Below lists potential internship opportunities that may be available in summer 2010.

Cash Operations

Offers cash services to customers within the Fourth District. These services include the ability to order currency and loose or wrapped coin, and the ability to deposit currency and loose coin. 

Internship duties include providing administrative, analytical and project coordination support for the department.  They will coordinate various automated-related projects for the department and provide operational related analysis and recommendations to management in the decision-making process.

We seek students majoring in Business Administration, IT, MIS or Computer Science, as well as those that possess strong Microsoft Access and Excel skills.

Community Development

Supports community reinvestment, fair lending, and economic development activities throughout the region.  The department seeks to identify best practices, build partnerships, and provide training and technical assistance to community development practitioners.

The summer intern will collect community data and research/analyze of findings, as well as compile documents and support department publications and programs including the annual Policy Summit.

We seek students majoring Public Policy, Public Administration, and Research with the ability to analyze data, utilize Excel and other statistical packages (Stata, SAS, etc.)

Credit Risk Management (Opportunities are filled for 2010)

Monitors and counsels institutions on Payment Systems Risk and Reserve Activities.   Functions as a discount window to compliment open market operations and facilitates the balance sheet adjustments of individual banks that face temporary, unforeseen changes in their asset and liability structure.

Interns work on collateral valuation, as-of adjustments and special projects.

We seek students majoring in Accounting, Finance, or Business, as well as those that possess strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills.

eGovernment Operations

This department supports major Department of Treasury applications and priced service applications.  These include new electronic collection methods that facilitate the ability of agencies to conduct transactions online.  Additionally the department assists Federal agencies in converting forms into documents, helps Federal agencies meet their requirements under the Government Paperwork Elimination Act (GPEA), and helps agencies meet the increasing demands for electronic solutions from Agencies

Interns will gain experience designing, developing, and maintaining high quality programming software features, test software changes in accordance with department and generally accepted standards, and provide input on team based solutions, design, and problem solving activities.

We seek students majoring in IT, MIS or Computer Science, as well as those that possess strong Java programming experience through coursework and preferably through work experience, have a good understanding of J2EE programming and organizational and communication skills.

Financial Support Services (Opportunities are filled for 2010)

Provides services such as Strategy, Finance and Risk Management, Expense Accounting, Contracts and Purchasing, and National Billing Services.

Interns function as a budget analyst for the summer.  Duties include balancing of expense and balance sheet accounts, journal entries, and ad hoc reporting.

We seek students majoring in Accounting, Finance, or Business, as well as those that possess strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills.

Public Information

Develops external communications strategies and programs. Develops websites for the Bank’s Internet and Intranet.  Serves as the official representative to provide Bank information to the public. 

Interns will create press releases and other external communications, conduct research on economic and community issues, and create a content inventory for both internal and external websites.

We seek students majoring in Education, Public Affairs or Communications.

Research

Models complex economic systems, analyzes data, and evaluates economic information to support the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland’s monetary policy, supervisory, and payments system responsibilities. The department produces academically respected economic research, monitors and reports on regional and national economic trends, and helps to craft public communications on economic issues.

Interns will work with Economists, gather and analyze data, and participate in daily update of economic trends by reading and summarizing economic related articles

We seek students majoring in Economics or Math/Statistics.

Statistics and Analysis (Opportunities are filled for 2010)

Collects, analyzes and distributes financial and structure data to formulate monetary policy, assess financial conditions of financial institutions and maintain organizational structure and ownership information for Fourth District financial institutions. 

Interns are assigned specific reports for which they are responsible for on a weekly and monthly basis.

We seek students majoring in Accounting, Finance, or Business, as well as those that possess strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills.

Supervision and Regulation (Opportunities are filled for 2010)

Promotes a safe, sound, and competitive banking system and stable financial conditions through quality supervision of state member banks, bank and financial holding companies, and other activities supervised by the Federal Reserve. 

Interns in this department are assigned to special projects that support supervisory and department objectives.
