Cleveland Fed Contest: Students Can Win Prizes by Finding the Economics on TV
The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland is offering high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to win prizes by finding economic concepts within their favorite TV show. The goal of the contest is to help students see how economics plays a role in their everyday lives.
For the Bank's 2012 Creative Writing Contest, "Economics on TV?," students can submit an essay, poem, play, or short story explaining how basic economic concepts impact the TV show's plot. They are asked to consider questions such as: Are the characters dealing with the issues of supply and demand? Is inflation making it difficult for them to purchase a car or pay for college expenses? What about any unintended consequences?
The deadline for submissions is February 27, 2012. The top prize is a $500 cash gift card.
Each qualifying entry will be evaluated on comprehension, organization, conclusions, creativity, and clarity. Submission requirements, a complete list of prizes, and an entry form can be found on the Bank's website.
