Submission Requirements
An essay is a short literary composition. No other forms
of writing will be accepted (plays, poetry, rap, etc.).
Each student may submit only one essay.
Essay may discuss only music with lyrics that do not
contain profanity, or pejorative or violent language, ideas, or themes.
Essays referring to such lyrics will be disqualified. Do not assume
the reader has heard the song.
Each student must complete a Student
Entry Form — signed by the student, parent or guardian, and
teacher — and submit it with two copies of his or her essay. Esssays
will not be returned to the author.
Essay may be no longer than three typed pages, double-spaced,
single-sided, with one-inch margins. (Page limit does not include title
page and bibliography.)
Essays must include a title page containing the following
information:
Essay title
Author's name
School name, address, telephone number
Teacher's name and e-mail address
References to primary and secondary sources must be clearly
identified.
