Application Workshops for 2008 Round of the New Markets Tax Credit ProgramThe U.S. Department of the Treasury’s CDFI Fund recently announced the opening of the sixth round of competition for tax credits on $3.5 billion of equity investments under the New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) Program. Those interested in learning how to apply for an allocation of NMTCs in the upcoming 2008 round of the NMTC Program, including how to apply for certification as a Community Development Entity (CDE), can do so by either attending one of six Application Workshops that will be held in the cities listed below or viewing a webcast of the Application Workshop. Registration to Attend Live Application WorkshopAnyone wishing to attend one of the six Live Application Workshops listed above must register through the CDFI Fund’s on-line registration system. The registration period is now open. Webcast of Application WorkshopIf a workshop is not offered in your area or you are unable to travel to one of the workshops we invite you to view the 2008 NMTC Program Application Workshop as a Webcast over the internet. The webcast will be broadcast live on January 16, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The necessary link to the webcast will be made available on the CDFI Fund’s website the morning of the day of the webcast. Background on NMTC Program The New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) Program is intended to spur the investment
of new private sector capital into low-income communities by permitting
taxpayers to receive a credit against Federal income taxes for making
Qualified Equity Investments (QEIs) in designated Community Development
Entities (CDEs). The CDFI Fund selects NMTC Allocatees annually through
a competitive application process. |
