The Community Affairs officers of the Federal Reserve System have jointly sponsored their fourth biennial research conference, Promises and Pitfalls: As Consumer Finance Options Multiply, Who Is Being Served and at What Cost? Consumer financial markets channel trillions of dollars of credit to households of varying income levels through a wide range of intermediaries operating in many markets. How efficiently do these markets operate, and how well are consumers’ needs being met? The conference brought together a diverse audience from academia, financial institutions, community organizations, foundations and government to learn about current research on consumer finance. New Markets Tax Credit: Sealing the DealNew Markets Tax Credit Seminar The New Markets Tax Credit program — created as part the Community Renewal Tax Relief Act of 2000 — is a $15 billion aimed at boosting community development investment in low-income communities. Attendees learned more about tax credits are implemented, the program’s parameters, and how the credits are affecting communities in our region. They also found out how community development entities are structuring deals, and heard from financial experts who have used New Markets Tax Credit to close successful deals. |
